Narrative:

MFD was dispatched to the 2800 block of Atwood Avenue for a structure fire. While en route, Engine Co. 3 received updated information that there was an oven on fire inside Kipp Corporation.

Several employees approached Engine Co. 3 as they arrived on scene. They told firefighters they tried to put out the fire on their own but it wouldn’t go out. All occupants had successfully evacuated the building without injury.

Light smoke was showing from an overhead door as Engine Co. 3 made entry. Firefighters proceeded inside with a water can and a 300-foot attack line. Upon locating the fire, one firefighter hit the fire with the water can extinguisher as another charged the attack line. Engine 3 knocked down the fire at 9:17 p.m. An automatic fire sprinkler also activated during firefighting operations.

Firefighters shut down the sprinkler, cut power to the oven, and ventilated the building. Ladder Co. 1 officially confirmed all occupants were out of the building.

The Madison Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team responded, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damages are currently estimated at around $245,000.
