Fire Department

Fire investigators continue to work to determine the cause of this fire. Meanwhile, they estimate the fire caused approximately $230,000 in damage. The structure suffered severe fire/smoke/water damage and will likely be a total loss. Winds from the south-southwest at 16-20 miles per hour, with gusts up to 32 mph, contributed to the spread of the fire.

On 05/01/2021 at 10:27 am Madison Fire Department Command Car 31, Ladder 1, Ladder 8, Engine 5, Engine 8, Engine 10, Engine 11, Medic 5 and Medic 8 were dispatched to a structure fire in the 4100 block of Vidon Dr.

Multiple calls were received from neighbors and a passerby reporting multiple sides of the single family dwelling were engulfed in fire.

Upon arrival Engine 8 confirmed a fully involved fire on two sides of the structure. Crews began exterior fire suppression operations. Ladder 1 began search and rescue operations. Once fire crews had the fire knocked down they transitioned to interior operations.

Only one of the homeowners was present when the fire broke out and was able to evacuate from the residence. Fire crews rescued a dog from the residence.

Medic 5 transported the homeowner to a local hospital, no further information is available at this time. The dog was transported to a local veterinarian clinic for treatment.

Madison Gas and Electric responded to the residence to shut down the utilities. As a result of the fire, two people and two dogs are displaced. The American Red Cross will be assisting the homeowners.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at the time of the press release.
