Narrative: 

Firefighters were dispatched to the 1500 block of Wendy Lane in response to reports of smoke and strange odors inside a home. Upon entry, Engine Co. 14 detected a slight odor of smoke. They proceeded to the basement where they found heavy smoke but no discernible source of heat or fire. After a brief search, firefighters found smoldering items in the basement and extinguished the fire using a water can extinguisher.

Occupants reported there were two cats still inside the residence. Engine Co. 14 performed a search and located the cats. They were taken into an ambulance and were administered oxygen by Medic 6.

The MFD Fire Investigation Team is working to determine what caused the fire. The American Red Cross assisted the four occupants who were displaced. Damage estimates are currently at around $1000.
