Narrative:

Neighbors called 911 Monday evening upon hearing alarms and smelling smoke coming from an unoccupied house on Stevens Street.

Firefighters responded and entered the home to find black smoke banked from floor to ceiling. With a thermal imaging camera and a 200-foot hose line in tow, Engine 9 advanced into the house. The camera indicated heat in the kitchen, which led firefighters to find flames coming from the base of the refrigerator. The fire was quickly extinguished, and Ladder Co. 1 assisted in clearing the smoke.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The home had just been purchased earlier that day. Although the exact cause of the fire is not known, the new homeowners report they were cleaning the refrigerator and noticed the ice maker was turned off. They turned the ice maker on and then left the residence. Firefighters were called about an hour and a half later.
