Arrival:

Address:
Lake Monona
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A 34-year-old man was able to bring himself to shore after his kayak capsized on Lake Monona Thursday afternoon.

The Madison Fire Department’s Lake Rescue Team was dispatched to the area near John Nolen Drive and S. Broom Street. Upon arrival, Command Car 31 found a person in rough waters about 100 yards off-shore. He appeared to be floating on his back, kicking his way back to shore. He made it to land just as the Lake Rescue Team arrived, and Engine Company 3 assisted him out of the water.

With his kayak still adrift near Monona Terrace, Lake Rescue 1 headed that way to retrieve and return the kayak while MPD gave the man a ride back to the Brittingham Park Boat Launch, where he’d originally begun his afternoon of kayaking. He was uninjured and did not require emergency medical services.
