Overheated Oil Leads To Cooking Fire
Madison, WI
Nobody was injured or displaced by a cooking fire that occurred on the city’s west side.
Ladder Company 2, Engine Company 12, and other MFD crews were dispatched to Carrington Avenue after a batch of oil caught fire while heating tortillas.
As one occupant was cooking, another was asleep and woke up to the sounds of the smoke alarm. Occupants put out the stovetop flames with a fire extinguisher. Upon their arrival, firefighters confirmed the fire was out and that it did not extend to nearby walls and cabinets.
Ladder Company 2 ventilated the apartment to clear out the smoke. Heat and smoke damage extended to the wall adjacent to the stovetop range, the ventilation hood above the range, and the cabinets and ceiling above the range. Damage estimates are not available.
