Arrival:
Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - 7:07pm
Address:
1400 block Vilas Avenue
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters responded to a residence on Vilas Avenue following a report of smoke coming from a light fixture. Medic 4 and Ladder Company 6 were among the first on scene and began investigating the problem.

Ladder Company 6 located the room in question, where it did smell as though something had burned. Firefighters opened up the light fixture and found two Asian beetles melted inside. The beetles’ remains were removed, and the light was turned back on. No other smoke came from the fixture, and the bulb was functioning normally.

The occupants verified this was the fixture in question, and firefighters explained the cause that they identified. The smoke produced was minimal and dissipated on its own with no need for firefighters to ventilate.
