Narrative:

A fire that broke out over the weekend at a FedEx distribution center was contained and extinguished by an automatic fire sprinkler.

The Madison Fire Department responded to the 3900 block of Hanson Road for a water flow alarm. Firefighters entered the building to find an activated sprinkler head which had extinguished a fire that damaged items beneath the sprinkler. Firefighters moved nearby boxes in hopes of salvaging and minimizing damage to other packages in the vicinity.

Ladder Company 8 assisted Engine Company 11 in ventilating smoke from the building, and Fire Investigators responded to look into what caused the fire. The investigation is ongoing.

The items that caught fire were broken-down boxes and/or damaged and non-shippable products, according to FedEx. They were not items waiting to be delivered to expectant customers.
