Arrival:

Address:
Shadow Ridge Trail
Madison, WI 53562
Narrative:

Engine Company 12 responded to an outside fire along Shadow Ridge Trail. The crew found a fire burning on an open lot in the City of Madison but determined the fire began across the borderline in the Town of Middleton.

Firefighters spoke with a resident who was burning a small pile of hay when a strong wind gust blew embers into the nearby open lot, which was covered with dry grass. Brush 12 was used to extinguish the fire and mop up the hot spots.

Residents are reminded that burning hay, grass clippings, brush, and other yard waste is not permitted in the City of Madison. When burning clean, dry wood, the fire should be contained by a mesh shield or spark arrestor to prevent embers from blowing away and spreading fire.
