Arrival:
Friday, January 5, 2018 - 4:17pm
Address:
1000 block McKenna Blvd.
Madison, WI 53719
Narrative:

A McKenna Blvd. resident called for the help of the Madison Fire Department after she saw fire and lots of smoke coming from the oven while baking a pizza.

Ladder Company 7 met with the occupant, who said she closed the oven door as soon as she saw the fire, but there was still a lot of smoke coming from the oven. Firefighters checked surrounding areas with a thermal imaging camera and found no fire extension.

With a water extinguisher ready, they opened the oven door. They found no flames, and only a small amount of smoke remained in the oven. Best of all, the pizza “was in edible condition.”

Firefighters believe some of the cheese melted off the pizza and burned on the bottom of the oven, causing all the smoke. A window was opened for ventilation and worked with the occupant to determine if all the smoke detectors in the apartment were working properly.

Soon after, the crew returned to service, and the occupant was left to enjoy her pizza.
