Arrival:
Saturday, January 6, 2018 - 8:56pm
Address:
Mohawk Drive & Nakoma Road
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Witnesses called 911 for a car traveling down Nakoma Road with flames coming from beneath the engine compartment. Other cars were able to signal the driver to pull over, and he did so near the BP gas station on Mohawk Drive.

The driver opened the hood as bystanders grabbed a dry chemical extinguisher from the gas station to begin putting out the fire. Ladder Company 6 arrived shortly thereafter and found the fire mostly out. They applied water to it to finish the job.

All the wires and rubber hoses inside the front end of the car were melted, burned, or charred rendering the car unusable. Gas station staff took in the driver and his dog to protect them from the cold while they waited for a tow truck to come take the car away.

No recent work was done on the car, and there were no known problems with it.
