Narrative: 

A fire broke out in a single-family home on the 1300 block of Dale Avenue, the only resident inside the house at the time escaped without injury.

Smoke was reported coming from the back of the home and from a roof vent at 2:20 p.m, Firefighters forced open the front door and encountered black smoke banking down to the floor. They found the seat of the fire, which was quickly extinguished.

One female resident was in the home when the fire broke out reported seeing smoke before she was able to use her walker and get herself outside onto the back porch. Several neighbors heard her yell for help and assisted her into a neighbor’s house.

The ranch style home suffered fire and smoke damage. Two residents who live in the home were displaced by the fire, but family has insurance.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimate $150,000.

Madison Police and MG&E assisted at the scene.
