Fire Department

Downtown and east side firefighters responded to The Settlement apartments on East Main Street after a neighbor reported black smoke coming from the rear of the building.

Medic 3 arrived first on scene and initially reported nothing showing. Upon circling the building, they did find smoke coming from one of the corners.

Originally reported to be a fire coming from an exhaust pipe, firefighters ultimately learned that this was decorative bark smoldering outside of the building, and the fire was fanned by an  exhaust fan attached to the underground parking.

The fire was quickly extinguished with a water extinguisher. It’s unknown at this time how the fire began.
