Narrative:

Ladder 2 and Medic 2 were dispatched to Mineral Point Road following a vehicle crash that injured one.

Firefighters and paramedics found a passenger vehicle resting against a traffic light with smoke coming from its engine compartment. The driver was still seated in the front seat as crews discovered flames inside the engine compartment mainly concentrated on the passenger side.

Paramedics escorted the driver out of the vehicle and into their ambulance as Ladder 2 focused on fighting the fire. Utilizing a pressurized water extinguisher wasn’t enough to keep the engine from smoking, so firefighters pulled a hose line to complete extinguishment.

Law enforcement arranged for a tow truck to respond to the intersection, and the Madison Streets Division was called to repair or replace the traffic light.

The driver was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
