Narrative:

Two buildings in a Science Drive complex were evacuated Thursday afternoon when two chemicals were combined in a laboratory, resulting in a toxic mixture.

As occupants waited outside 601 and 603 Science Drive, Ladder Company 2, Medic 2, and the Madison Fire Department's Hazardous Incident Team investigated the laboratory. Responders were told that 200 milliliters of nitric acid were combined with one liter of an unknown chemical inside a container at 601 Science Drive. The mixture caused a chemical reaction, affecting one person who was transported by paramedics to a local hospital.

After the reaction was stabilized and all other lab containers secured, occupants were welcomed back inside at 2:20 p.m. There were no additional injuries.
