Arrival:
Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - 4:11am
Address:
4600 block Treichel Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A fire that damaged an outdoor deck was traced back to discarded smoking materials early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 4600 block of Treichel Street after a neighbor smelled smoke, went outside, and saw a second-floor deck on the end of the building on fire. He called 911 and then grabbed a garden hose and wet down the deck, extinguishing the fire.

A can of cigarette butts was found inside a planter containing potting soil on the deck. The damage indicated this was the source of the fire. Nobody was injured or displaced.
