Passersby discovered a fire burning along the Lakeshore Path, near the area of the UW Natatorium, Wednesday evening, prompting a response from Engine Company 4.

According to witnesses, the fire looked like it had been burning for quite a while as some of the logs were already turned to ash.

As Engine Company 4 responded via the Lakeshore Path, they were directed toward the 3-foot by 3-foot path of land where branches continued to burn. Firefighters took the burning logs and submerged them in the lake and swept away any remaining ashes.

A chair, a couple of coolers, and some fishing equipment suggested there had been at least one person associated with the fire, but nobody came forward to claim responsibility for the unauthorized campfire.
