Engine Company 4 was called to investigate smoke coming from behind the Hill Farms Heating Plant on the 4600 block of University Ave. Just as firefighters approached the area, they received an update that a bystander discovered a dumpster fire behind the building.

It took two gallons of foam and approximately 600 gallons of water to extinguish and flush the fire and surrounding area. The dumpster was located near an enclosed area that had a number of overhead doors used as a loading dock. Firefighters checked to make sure the fire hadn’t spread to the building and ultimately determined the fire remained confined to the dumpster.

There was no way to determine an ignition source, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
