Narrative:

Alarms sounded at the Galaxie building on East Washington Wednesday evening, prompting an evacuation of the large multi-purpose complex.

Numerous occupants were standing outside as firefighters arrived to investigate the issue. As strobe lights flashed, firefighters gave verbal instructions over the facility’s public address system for any remaining occupants to exit the building.

The alarm panel indicated there was smoke detected on the 7th floor. A slight odor and haze of smoke was found there with one firefighter reporting the smell of burned food. Building managers assisted as firefighters searched multiple units for the source. They ultimately located one apartment which appeared to be the source of the smoke smell. No charring or burns were found.

Firefighters opened the windows and ventilated the apartment. The alarm system was reset and occupants returned inside around 7:00 p.m.
