Arrival:
Tuesday, January 10, 2017 - 11:24pm
Address:
1500 block Trailsway
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A resident became concerned when smoke began to build up in her kitchen and she couldn’t identify the source. After a call to the Dane County 911 Public Safety Communication Center, Engine Company 10 and other MFD units were dispatched to the apartment on Trailsway for a possible structure fire.

There were no alarms sounding when firefighters arrived, and nobody was evacuating the building. Firefighters entered the apartment and found light smoky conditions along with the smell of burning plastic. They eventually pinpointed the source— a slow cooker in the kitchen in the ‘on’ position with a plastic cake container stored inside of it.

After bringing the slow cooker outside and ventilating the apartment, Engine 10 verified there were no other imminent fire hazards in the apartment or in other parts of the building, including the basement. Firefighters reminded the occupant to keep her slow cooker unplugged and away from children as there’s a young child staying there.
