Arrival:
Wednesday, December 21, 2016 - 4:26pm
Address:
600 block N. Segoe Road
Madison, WI
Narrative:

A mother and her adult son were grateful for the services of Engine Company 9 after the duo found themselves trapped in a stalled elevator at a Segoe Road high-rise.

Firefighters were advised the elevator was stuck between the third and fourth floors of the building. Their initial attempts to recall the elevator with their fire service were unsuccessful. Next, they walked up to the fourth floor and made verbal contact with the victims through the elevator doors. Both individuals confirmed they were doing alright and had no emergency medical needs.

Unable to find the Elevator Control Room, the crew’s next step was to enter the elevator shaft and turn off the elevator using power switches on top of the car. They also attempted to move the car along using inspection control switches, but the elevator wouldn’t budge. That’s when one firefighter climbed into the car with the mother and son and safely helped them out.

The elevator remained shut down until a professional elevator service company could perform necessary repairs.
