Narrative: 

The City of Madison Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide evacuated an apartment on the 1400 block of Wayridge Drive after residents heard the alarms sounding.

On Thursday, October 6th, Firefighters from Fire Station #8 were called shortly after 8:30 p.m.

When the crew arrived to the multi unit apartment complex, they found several residents had self evacuated. Engine 8 crew entered the building with a gas monitor, where they had a reading of 180ppm in the underground garage area. The remainder of the residents were evacuated from the building.
 
Firefighters determined a hot water heater was not working properly, so maintenance turned off power and gas to the unit. Fire crews ventilated the structure and checked carbon monoxide levels to ensure the CO levels were within normal limits before allowing residents back into their apartments.
 
Madison Police and building maintenance also assisted at the scene.
