Residents of Tabor Oaks Assisted Living received an unwelcome early morning wake-up call after a fire broke out in a second floor apartment this morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to the facility in the 6100 block of Mineral Point Road at 6:40 a.m.

The sprinkler system contained the fire to the apartment, which limited property damage. The fire was out when firefighters arrived. Crews went on to conduct a search and rescue of the building, finding occupants had evacuated the immediate area to isolate themselves on the other side of fire doors.

Residents were assisted by staff at the housing facility, following existing evacuation protocols. Medic 9 paramedics checked several residents at the scene to ensure that no one was adversely affected by the smoke conditions in the vicinity of the fire apartment.

Fire damage was contained to the apartment of origin and most residents were able to return to their apartments.
 
Fire investigators have determined that fire was caused by an electrical fault in a bedside table lamp. Damages are estimated at $10,000.
