Street Closures--UW Chemistry Building Project

Below is an update on the work and associated traffic lane and street closures around the University of Wisconsin Chemistry Building Project.
- Monday, December 3
- Off-peak lane closures on University Avenue at Mills Street for underground utility locates (9am-3pm)
- N Charter Street closed to both directions of traffic between University Avenue and Johnson Street; east sidewalk closed
- N Mills Street closed to both directions of traffic between University Avenue and Johnson Street (local traffic to Conklin Place from University Avenue to N Mills Street); west sidewalk closed
- Tuesday, December 4
- Off-peak lane closures on University Avenue at Mills Street in order to reconfigure traffic lane markings (9am-3pm)
- Westbound University Avenue Metro bus stop at N Mills Street removed until project completion in 2021
- Wednesday, December 5
- Off-peak lane closures on University Ave at Mills Street in order to reconfigure traffic lane markings (9am-3pm). Lane configuration will be (south to north) construction delivery lane in existing contra-flow bike lane, protected pedestrian and bike lane in existing leftmost traffic lane, three thru traffic lanes and one, combined bus/bike lane next to north curb
- A single southbound traffic lane returns to N Mills Street between University Avenue and Johnson Street
- Southbound Metro bus service returns to N Mills Street
- Thursday, 12/6; Friday, 12/7; Monday, 12/10; and Tuesday, 12/11
- Off-peak lane closures on University Avenue at Mills Street for underground utility locates (9am-3pm)
- Late December to Early January 2019
- A single southbound traffic lane returns to N Charter Street between University Avenue and Johnson Street
- Crosswalk on west leg of Charter/University Avenue intersection reopens
- Metro bus services returns to southbound Charter Street
- Northbound Charter Street and crosswalk on east side of Charter Street remain closed
- Early to mid-January 2019
- N Mills Street reopens to two-way traffic between University Avenue and Johnson Street; west sidewalk remains closed
- Northbound Metro bus service returns to N Mills Street
- Spring 2019
- N Charter Street repaved between University Avenue and Johnson Street and fully reopened.
- Late 2020 to Early 2021
- Possible multi-day, and peak-hour traffic impacts to University Avenue at N Mills Street to remove tower crane
- 2021
- UW Chemistry tower addition complete—traffic lane configuration on University Avenue returns to normal
