The Streets Division will begin collection of storm damaged tree limbs and brush on Monday January 7th, the same date we begin Christmas tree collection. Residents who have suffered tree damage from the recent snow storm should put their limbs out for collection by 7 a.m. on January 7th to insure they will be collected during the first round of collection. A second round of collection is tentatively set to begin on Tuesday January 22nd.

"We know that there are many residents who have suffered some tree damage in the last week," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "We are going to provide collection of that material along with Christmas trees starting January 7th."

Due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the Streets Division will be working short weeks with double collection days in the next ten days. With staff also do clean up after the big snow storm, we are unable to begin brush collection form residents sooner than January 7th. Forestry has been cleaning up damage from terrace trees since the storm began.

Tree limbs placed at the curb for collection should be 8 feet in length of less and less than 8 inches in diameter. Brush that has been cut by contractors will not be collected. Residents who hire others to cut their brush must make arrangements with those contractors to remove the material.

"We are also asking residents to dig out branches that have been or will become buried by snow," Dreckmann said. "Residents who do not wish to wait for January 7th can bring their brush to our drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd. and 4602 Sycamore Av."

The City drop off sites are open winter hours M-F from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Additional information on sites and brush collection is available at the Streets Division's web site www.cityofmadison.com/streets .
