Additional Officers To Focus On Impaired Drivers

The Madison Police Department will have additional patrol officers on the streets this coming weekend. Sunday is St. Patrick's Day. Staffing increases will begin Friday and continue through Sunday night.

Officers will be focused on identifying impaired drivers, and secondarily, speed enforcement. On a third enforcement tier, members of increased patrols will have an eye out for those not wearing seatbelts.

Traditionally, this weekend has been a time when we do often see an increase in the number of impaired drivers, and alcohol related crashes.

The MPD will look to strengthen traffic safety this weekend by deploying officers on roadways with high traffic volume, and in areas where crashes have occurred, with some frequency, in the past. Among the locations you may see them: East Washington Ave., John Nolen Dr, University Ave., Stoughton Rd (Highway 51), Packers Ave. and Northport Dr.

Officers will be taking a zero tolerance approach to impaired driving.

Have fun, but please drive safely!
