One recurring problem has emerged during this year's Downtown move out.  There are quite a few TV's, computer monitors, and microwaves being left at the curb.  All of these items require a fee for disposal/recycling and some are no longer picked up at the curb.

     "We are seeing quite a few old TV's, computer monitors, computer CPU's and microwaves being left at the curb during this year's August move out," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said.  "We require a fee for the collection of microwaves and we no longer collect TV's, monitors, and computer CPU's.  They must be brought to a drop off site for recycling."

     The fee for the collection of a microwave is $15.  There is a $10 charge for TV's, monitors, and CPU's.  The later three items must be brought to a drop off site for recycling.

     "Residents can pay the fees and get collection or drop off stickers at any Madison Public Library," Dreckmann said.  "We will not collect microwaves without stickers, nor will we collect TV's, monitors, and CPU's.  If the items have not been properly handled in two weeks, we will remove them from the curb and charge property owners the appropriate sticker fee, plus a $35 administrative fee.  These charges are most often then deducted from the security deposits of tenants."
