A draft of the Regent Street - South Campus Neighborhood Plan is now available for public comment. This document, which has been under development since January, provides a vision for the future of the area and includes framework for achieving it. The planning area is generally located between Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center, and between Regent and West Johnson Streets. The draft plan may be viewed on the project's website at:
http://www.cityofmadison.com/neighborhoods/rsscPlan , on the "what's new" page.

A public meeting has been scheduled on Monday, November 12 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Neighborhood House Community Center, 29 S. Mills Street. The purpose of this meeting is to receive input from the public on the draft plan and its recommendations. This will be the last in a series of four large-scale public meetings held throughout the planning process. Business and property owners, residents, students, and others with and interest in the future of this area are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Input received during this meeting will be considered by the Regent Street-South Campus Plan Steering Committee at its meeting on November 28. It is anticipated that the Steering Committee will finalize the plan at that time and submit it to the City for adoption. The Common Council is likely to consider this matter during the first quarter of 2008.

The goal of this effort is to establish a clear set of land use policies to guide redevelopment, preservation, and other activities within the area in a comprehensive manner. The project will focus primarily on land use and physical design issues, including developing a set of design guidelines that will address building heights, scale, and massing. Other issues will also be addressed, including transportation issues (especially pedestrian, bicycle, and transit modes, and automobile parking), parks and open space, and creating a vibrant business district.

This effort is being funded through $20,000 from the City of Madison, $20,000 from Dane County's BUILD Program, $15,000 from the UW-Madison, and approximately $20,000 from other donors.
