Madison - On Wednesday, March 21, Mayor Cieslewicz will deliver Evening Meals on Wheels to Independent Living, Inc. clients in Madison, joining thousands of mayors nationwide delivering Meals on Wheels in their own communities.

Mayors for Meals is part of March for Meals, a month-long campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger, recruit volunteers and raise funds to help subsidize meals for those who can't afford them.

"Meals on Wheels is an effective program to help our community respond to the issue of senior hunger," said Mayor Cieslewicz. "It is also a very rewarding activity, and I hope that many in our community will step forward as volunteers to help get quality, nourishing meals to our seniors."

March for Meals is part of a nationwide campaign sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America to focus on the serious issue of senior hunger in our communities.

Each weeknight, Independent Living volunteers deliver more than 200 nourishing meals throughout Dane County to frail, homebound adults and people with disabilities. The meals not only provide a source of quality nutrition and a safety check but are also, for some recipients, the only human contact they will have that day.

Other local mayors delivering Independent Living's Evening Meals on Wheels in their communities are Doug Zwank, Middleton; Jon Hochkammer, Verona; Joe Chase, Sun Prairie; and Robb Kahl, Monona.
