More nationwide recognition for Madison this week as Kiplinger.com released its top cities for Young Adults with Madison receiving the top spot.

Kiplinger.com's recent series on Best Cities for Every Life Stage also highlighted communities for Mid-Career Professionals, Families, and Retirees. The runner up for Young Adults went to Austin, Texas.

"On a typical Saturday, you might browse the Dane County Farmers' Market, head down to Camp Randall Stadium to tailgate and watch Badgers football, or boat or fish in lakes Kegonsa, Mendota, Monona and Waubesa," noted the Kiplinger story. The article also noted tech savvy residents, start-up firms, brewpubs, a low unemployment rate and affordable housing.

"I am honored to serve as Mayor of a city receiving stellar recognition as a great city for young people," said 67-year-old Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. "Kiplinger.com is a respected website read nationwide and I am pleased that editors agree that we live in a remarkable community."

To identify the Best Cities for Young Adults, Kiplinger teamed up with the Martin Prosperity Institute, a think tank that studies economic prosperity. Areas rated include living costs, employment growth, and a population that scores high on measures of education and tech-savviness. Rental rates and restaurant opportunities were also a factor.
