Public Invited To Attend Remembrance Ceremony, Give Blood During Annual 'Never Forget' Blood Drive

The Madison Fire Department, Madison Police Department, and the American Red Cross of Wisconsin invite the public to give the gift of life through blood donation during the 10th annual “Never Forget” Blood Drive. This year’s event commemorates the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

For the tenth year in a row, local first responders join forces with the American Red Cross with a new, ambitious goal of collecting 175 blood donations.

The “Never Forget” Blood Drive takes place Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Fire Station 14 (3201 Dairy Drive) from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Make an appointment today via the Red Cross website, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and use the sponsor word “PublicSafety.” Walk-ins accepted if time allows.

This year’s blood drive begins with a ceremony presented by the Madison Fire and Madison Police Honor Guard and moment of silence marking the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The ceremony will take place at 7:35 a.m. and will include the following events:

  • Presentation of the colors
  • A recitation of a poem titled “One”
  • Observance of the National Moment of Silence at 7:46 a.m. (Central)
  • Remarks by representatives from Madison Fire, Madison Police, and Fire Fighters Local 311

The public is welcome to attend and is asked to assemble on the sidewalk along Dairy Drive in front of Fire Station 14.

The first 200 blood donors will receive a commemorative t-shirt commissioned by the American Red Cross of Wisconsin, Fire Fighters Local 311 Charities, and the Madison Professional Police Officers Association. Donors will also receive a $15 Visa gift card courtesy of Suburban Propane and a free haircut coupon from Sports Clips, both via email.

A food cart is also available on site from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. while supplies last. Cash and credit cards accepted.
