The Madison Arts Commission ARTspace program proudly presents Amy Mietzel: mixed media. Mietzel's watercolor collages and ceramic sculptures will be exhibited in the lobby gallery of the Madison Municipal Building from November 1 through December 27, 2007.

Mietzel states, "As an artist I have always found intrinsic value in the celebration of nature. For myself, there is a transcendent power in the layers of landscape and all things wild. In my attempt to capture and cultivate an admiration for he natural world, I have been creating mixed media paintings that show the relationship between humans and the environment. Similar to the paintings, the sculptures are narratives that characterize people as they interact with their surroundings. Reflective writing or coined phrases have recently entered my work and plan an important part in the story of each piece. The writing becomes part of the piece and is influenced by a variety of cultures. Most of my art is an insightful process in which I depict real life people and places-some are a bit serious but most have zany or capricious twists to them. These are imaginative pieces with characters that capture a moment of time or gesture often punctuated in color or line."

The Madison Arts Commission's ARTspace program is open to all Madison visual artists who would like to showcase original two-dimensional works in highly utilized city spaces. For information about applying for an exhibition in ARTspace please visit MAC's website at www.cityofmadison.com/mac.
