Madison Public Library is a dynamic organization that actively embraces the changing role of libraries. The Goodman South Madison Library is a vibrant neighborhood library space that serves all ages with everything from technology access to library material check out to early literacy support. PASS AmeriCorps members at the Goodman South Madison Library will focus on expanding the Library’s scope of programs and services directed towards teens. Culturally and linguistically diverse applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Program Support and Coordination of Goodman South Library Programs for Tweens and Teens:                                                          

  • Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of an enrichment program for adolescent girls during after school hours.
  • Provide in-library guidance to tweens and teens to teach them appropriate library behaviors and encourage the use of library resources.
  • Provide literacy support to tweens and teens as needed.
  • Participate in weekly AmeriCorps members meetings and training hours (As available)
  • Complete America Learns monthly reporting, and other data reporting for youth in programs
  • Assist in developing community service projects and with adult volunteer recruitment

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability and desire to build relationships with youth, and to actively support and encourage their social, emotional, and educational development.
  • Ability to take ownership of a project and coordinate logistics
  • Ability to work with others and contribute to a positive work climate
  • Desire to learn and teach in a fun and challenging work environment
  • Desire to encourage literacy and enhance literacy skills
  • Experience working with youth and staff from many socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience in behavior management of adolescent youth
  • At least one year of volunteer or paid experience in an educational, out-of-school time, or  youth-serving social service environment preferred
  • Available primarily during the after school times of 3:00 – 7:00 pm, including some weekends.

PASS AmeriCorps Requirements:

  • Able and willing to serve 900 hours between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020
  • A U.S. citizen, permanent resident or U.S. national
  • Have a high school degree or equivalent
  • Be a least 18 years old
  • Pass a criminal background check including National Sex Offender Registry, State(s) registry and FBI
