Exciting things are happening at Madison Public Library this month, beginning with the library unveiling its new logo at the Dream Big! Read Concert & Picnic at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave., on Tuesday, August 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The event will serve as an opportunity for the library to applaud the thousands of children and teens who participated in the Dream Big! Read Summer Reading Club and highlight the valuable role the library plays in growing young readers. In addition, a new, energetic logo will be shared for the system and its nine branches as it celebrates 137 years of serving, educating and entertaining the community with its ever-expanding number of free resources. Those who attend will discover little-known facts about the library, be the first to learn about upcoming opportunities to meet the new library director and look forward to an exciting future made possible by a new flagship library. Children who attend will receive a free gift.

There is no need to RSVP for this free event; just pack a picnic supper and head to Olbrich's lush gardens for the fun-filled concert, rain or shine. At 6:30, kids can play with bubbles from Diane Schwartz's Get Kids Outside, with Madison family favorite Ken Lonnquist & the Mighty Kenlandos following at 7.

The 2012 Summer Library Program was produced with generous sponsorship from Boulders Climbing Gym, City of Madison Mayor's Office, EdVest, Friends of the Pinney Library, Friends of the Sequoya Library, Madison Mallards, Monroe Street Library League, Noodles & Company, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Overture Center for the Arts, Rocky Rococo's Pizza, South Central Library System, Ultrazone Laser Tag, and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
