Though fires demand a response from firefighters, in many cases, it is law enforcement that is first on scene.

Cooperation and coordination between fire and police agencies is a critical component to maintaining scene safety for civilians and first responders. That same formula is essential to the investigation of fires.

In the City of Madison, the Fire & Police Fire/Arson Investigation Joint Task Force works cooperatively on any fire involving serious injury, fatality, large property loss, or clear indicators that the fire may have been intentionally set.

The City of Madison Fire Department and Dane County Arson Response Initiative, Inc. (DCARI) have teamed to present Fire Ops for Law Enforcement Tuesday, June 12th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MATC Fire Service Education Center located at 1750 Pearson Street in Madison.

Investigators will be broken into "Companies." Each Company will rotate through 5 Stations:
a. Fire Attack
b. Ventilation
c. Search/Rescue
d. Salvage/Overhaul
e. REHAB

There are 17 people signed up for the class, including officers from Sun Prairie PD, UW PD, Dane County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Justice.
