Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) crews started emergency work April 5 to fix a broken sanitary sewer pipe near Waite Circle on the southwest side of the City of Madison.

Crews discovered the break April 3. The broken pipe was 12 inches in diameter and very shallow. The pipe broke because several large rocks crushed the top of the pipe. Crews must fix the pipe to prevent surface water from entering the pipe and prevent future damage.

The break did not cause any sanitary sewer overflows. The pipe also continued to convey flow. MMSD retained Capitol Underground to finish the repairs. The work should be finished by April 7.
