In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA), the Administration for Community Living has announced Get into the Act as its theme for Older Americans Month. Celebrate at the Madison Senior Center as we recognize older Americans for their contributions. We focus on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities, and making a positive impact in the lives of others. By promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and inclusivity, more Americans than ever before can Get into the Act.
 
The annual senior art show, An Artful Affair, is open throughout the month of May. View more than 100 artworks in watercolor, pastels, oils, ink/pencil, chalk, acrylics, and mixed media that were created by talented Dane County artists, 55 years plus. Works are judged, and prizes and awards are posted.  The exhibit is open weekdays, 8:30 – 4 pm.
 
Hear students from eight Madison Metropolitan School District middle schools read winning essays from the Sixth Grade Essay Contest on Wednesday, May 6, 3:15 – 4:30 pm. The contest, involving 750 Madison students, is hosted by the Madison Senior Center and the four Madison Coalitions of Older Adults. Listen to the sincere reflections of the eight winning essays as young people read tributes to their favorite older person. Look for parents and speaker Jennifer P. Cheatham, Superintendent of Madison Metropolitan School District.
 
The Senior Center proudly presents the Wingra Woodwind Quintet on Monday, May 11 at 12:30 pm. Since its formation in 1965, the Wingra Woodwind Quintet has established a tradition of artistic and teaching excellence. The ensemble-in-residence at UW Madison, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
