The Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Team was called to Lake Monona at 7:35 AM today to rescue a swimmer in distress. Engine 3 arrived within four minutes of the call and the rescue boat was in the water shortly after that.

Two people who were in a boat on the lake pulled the unresponsive swimmer from the water and brought her to a nearby pier. The Lake Rescue Team met the boat at the pier where paramedics were waiting. The rescue divers assisted with transferring the woman from the boat to an ambulance for transport to the hospital.

The Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Team is comprised 51 trained scuba divers, certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. On-duty divers respond year-round to topside, underwater, and ice rescues and recoveries, vehicle recoveries, and assistance calls from the City of Madison Police Department and Dane County Sheriff's Office.
