Serving as 10th District Alder over the past six years has been an incredible privilege. It is difficult to articulate what an honor it has been to represent constituents, work on behalf of the Allied Drive community, and advocate for equal opportunity and social justice. With a mixture of both joy and sadness, I am announcing my intention to not seek re-election in April, 2013.

The city's redistricting process, which I fully support, sadly resulted in my residence no longer being located in District 10. This left me with three options: move, run for District 13 Alder, or not seek re-election. I have opted for the latter. While I plan to remain active in the community, I look forward to spending more time with my wonderful partner, children, and family. I couldn't have made it through the last six years without their steadfast support, love, and deep appreciation for my work.

I have been talking to many individuals about running for what will be District 10's open seat. My preference would be a candidate who would continue District 10's long tradition of advocacy for multi-modal transportation options, environmental stewardship, social justice, and equality. My deepest hope is that our City continues to preserve our beautiful natural resources and to fight for meaningful social change. There remains no excuse for so much injustice in a community of such wealth.

I am grateful to District 10 voters for entrusting me, over the course of three elections, to represent them and stand strong for the values that make Madison such a great place to live.
