To commemorate and celebrate the life and death of Georgia Congressman John Lewis, the City of Madison is lowering flags to half-staff at all City buildings on Thursday July 30, 2020, the day the late Congressman will be laid to rest.

I hope as we go about our days and week, we take time to remember the Congressman, the struggles he fought, the wisdom he shared and the respect he earned. Personally, I reflect on this quote:

"Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."

Congressman Lewis died this month at the age of 80. His funeral will be Thursday in Atlanta.
