Our nation, our State and certainly our City are richer because of diversity, and that includes UW students from around the world. The most recent US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) guidance mandating that if classes are taken on line, students must leave our country, is shortsighted and discriminatory. Many students will not be able to continue their education online from afar, they will not be able to build relationships with their professors and peers and will suffer significant disruption of their educational plans for no good reason.

I agree with UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank who says “These students are valued members of our community , and we will continue to support and advocate for them.” I urge everyone to join Chancellor Blank and me in contacting our elected federal officials to stop this reckless governance.
