The cause of a fire that consumed a vehicle on Madison’s west side early Tuesday morning is still unknown.
 
Multiple people reported the fire to the Dane County 911 Communications Center.
 
Engine 7 arrived at the scene at 3:43 a.m. to find the fire consuming the entire vehicle. Firefighters knocked down the fire with foam and water. No occupants were inside the vehicle.
 
Madison Police assisted in locating witnesses who reported that the “pops” from the fire alerted them to the situation.
 
The vehicle reportedly had been vandalized in recent weeks, and it had not been moved since the initial bout of vandalism.
 
The fire remains under investigation by MFD and MPD.
