Address:
2400 block Monterrey Drive
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters responded to an apartment complex on Monterrey Drive for reports of smoke coming from an apartment unit. Smoke was visible from the outside as Engine Co. 10 arrived on scene. The crew located the affected apartment, where they found smoke and small flames on the stovetop.

One occupant was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries. There were no other occupants in the unit at the time. Ladder Co. 8, Ladder Co. 1, and Engine Co. 5 performed additional searches and completed evacuation of the building.

One building occupant reported a medical emergency while firefighters were on scene, and that individual was also taken to the hospital by ambulance. There were no other injuries or illnesses reported.

The stovetop fire was put to a stop as soon as firefighters located it. It produced more heat and smoke than fire; it did not cause any damage. Firefighters cleared smoke from the unit, and all building occupants were able to return to their homes.
