Arrival:
Tuesday, July 19, 2016 - 3:20pm
Address:
1800 block Aberg Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

The car had been running for at least 25 minutes before a Madison couple parked it to grab the mail. The driver stayed behind to listen to music while her boyfriend ran to check the mailbox. Though the engine wasn’t running, she began to smell smoke coming from the front of the car.

Unable to get the key out of the ignition, she left the vehicle and alerted her boyfriend that his car was starting on fire. They called 911 and frantically searched for a fire extinguisher until firefighters would arrive.

The fire hadn’t yet extended beyond the Toyota Camry’s engine compartment when Engine Company 10 rolled up.  They immediately pulled a line and attacked the fire.

Two other vehicles were in close proximity. One was able to safely leave the area without sustaining any damage. A nearby Lexus E5350 sustained damage to a quarter panel and side mirror.

Investigators responded to the scene to examine the Camry. It had been purchased by its current owners just a week or two ago.
