Electrical
Dispatch:

Arrival:
Friday, May 27, 2016 - 2:51pm
Address:
Wirth Court
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Engine 3 was dispatched to Wirth Court for a power line reportedly down in a nearby street. As firefighters approached the scene, they found a large tree limb across the sidewalk with a power line sagging nearby.

The crew backed up their engine to a safer distance and walked up to the area. About 20-25 feet of power cable had been ripped by the tree limb onto the front lawn of an adjacent house. The line wasn’t severed, but with their Hot Stick (a device used to gauge live voltage), Engine 3 determined the power line was still active.

Firefighters placed cones in the street to keep traffic out, and interested onlookers were politely asked to keep their distance as everyone waited for MG&E to arrive.

The homeowner wasn’t around at the time of the incident, but neighbors passed along her contact information so Engine 3 could notify her on the situation.

In the meantime, MG&E cut the power lines to the home to get them out of the street and proceeded with repairs. The City of Madison Forestry Department came to remove the tree limb from the front lawn, sidewalk, and driveway.
