Narrative:

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched to 4205 Anderson Road for a report of a semi on fire. While en route, additional information indicated there may be multiple semi trucks on fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 11 noted a total of three semis engulfed in flames. The crew began fire attack while also protecting other semis in close proximity, which were at risk of also catching on fire. With the help of Medic 8, Engine Co. 8 established a water supply and laid into Engine 11. Engine 8 utilized their deck gun for fire attack. Over 500 gallons of water were needed to fight the fire, along with 31 gallons of foam. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was notified of the amount of foam utilized to fight the semi fire, in accordance with fire department protocol. Firefighting foam is utilized in fuel-based fires, often for vehicle fires such as this one. The Madison Fire Department switched to PFAS-free firefighting foam in 2019 out of concern for the environmental impact of the product.
