Dispatch:
Tuesday, November 15, 2016 - 1:13pm
Address:
E. Washington Avenue & S. Patterson Street
Madison, WI
Narrative:

The fuel tank of a semi truck ruptured after it was driven over a raised road construction area on East Washington Ave. Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled over a 100-yard area.

Madison Police called for the help of firefighters to contain the spill, some of which landed in the storm sewers at East Washington and South Patterson. Engine 3 applied two 40-pound bags of absorbent powder near the storm sewer to prevent more fuel from reaching the grates.

Engine Company 3 consulted with Wisconsin Emergency Management, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Madison Fire Department’s Hazardous Incident Team to plot out mitigation plans. The City of Madison Streets Division assisted with cleanup at the intersection, and City Engineering responded to remove the fuel inside the storm sewers.

Madison Police, Streets, and Engineering Departments cleared the scene at 3:12 p.m.
