Incident Type:
Smoke Scare
Dispatch:
Thursday, April 28, 2016 - 8:13pm
Arrival:
Thursday, April 28, 2016 - 8:18pm
Address:
3400 block of East Washington Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

With what looked like smoke billowing out onto East Washington Avenue Thursday night, one passerby called 911 for fear there might be a fire at Gardner Bakery.

Firefighters rushed to the building, situated near the corner of East Washington and Fair Oaks Ave.

Ladder 8 was first on scene. Firefighters saw what the caller saw, but they soon determined it wasn’t smoke coming from the building. Rather, it was steam coming from an exhaust pipe on the side of the building.

Maintenance staff there say steam is a normal part of the production operations at the bakery.
