Narrative:
A full structure fire response was sent to Witte Hall on the UW-Madison campus out of concern for sparks seen coming from the roof.
Ladder Company 1 began investigating, finding no alarms sounding and no sparks or other signs of fire visible from the outside. Firefighters access the roof of one of the building’s towers while Engine 1 checked out the second tower.
Crews determined that what was seen by the passerby was sparks from a welder and grinding of metal by construction workers on the top floor. There was no problem, and all responding companies cleared from the call.
