A maintenance worker at an Allied Drive apartment building dialed 911 when a smoke detector sounding in one of the units.

Occupants were evacuating as Ladder Company 7 pulled up. When nobody answered the door to the apartment where the detector was sounding, firefighters forced it open. They found what appeared to be refried beans on top of an active burner on the electric stove. The scorched beans were removed, and the stove was turned off.

Building maintenance left a voicemail for the absent occupant and remained on scene as Ladder 7 returned to service.
